TESTIMONIALS AND REVIEWS

MY TESTIMONY: SEAN

Since arriving at 180 Ministries five and a half months ago, Sean has experienced major changes in his mindset, behavior, and overall health. Before entering the program, he struggled with depression, anxiety, low confidence, and poor decision-making, leaving him exhausted and hopeless. Through classes, counseling, and hands-on work, Sean has rebuilt healthy thinking patterns and gained practical tools to support his recovery journey.

One of the biggest changes for Sean has been finding renewed purpose and hope for the future. He has learned how to manage stress, work through uncertainty, and stay focused on becoming the best version of himself. Today, Sean feels more confident and optimistic about life, recovery, and being a strong, healthy father for his two young boys.

MY TESTIMONY: SHASTA

Shasta came into the program alone and questioning a God who would allow the abuse, death, and the destruction that she had experienced life to be. Married nine years, with three children, she had fallen into addiction and lost everything. Her husband was in jail, her oldest son had been adopted and she was about to lose her two youngest boys for adoption.

Shasta was broken. It took a desperate leap of faith to get her through our front doors. It has been eight months. Shasta began a walk with her Redeemer. She chose to give her heart and life to Him and He brought her youngest sons home to her and began a tender healing journey in the whole family. Her husband who is now serving time at a halfway house is seeing the transformation in his wife and is hungry for the new life and hope he sees in her.

MY TESTIMONY: MATTHEW

Matthew entered the program in September 2022 homeless, broken, and desperate for change. Before coming to 180 Ministries, he was living on the streets of Denver battling methamphetamine and alcohol addiction while praying for a second chance at life. His determination was clear from the start—he showed up on a Saturday morning without an intake date, begging to be admitted into the program. From the moment he arrived, Matthew committed himself to scripture and placed his trust in Jesus as the foundation for his new life.

During the program, Matthew faced difficult challenges, including ongoing epilepsy that had fueled his alcohol abuse for years. He suffered multiple seizures and was rushed to the hospital several times, but through it all he learned to trust God and persevere through uncomfortable circumstances. Since graduating, Matthew has found success with a career selling insurance, stays active in his church community, and continues pursuing treatment to reduce his seizures. His story is a powerful example of God’s faithfulness and what can happen when someone fully commits to transformation.

“What does real change look like? Sometimes it starts with a simple but powerful decision—to become the woman your family needs you to be.”

-Shasta, Graduate of 180 MINISTRIES

UNDERSTANDING ADDICTION AND RECOVERY

Addiction affects people in different ways, but at its core it is a complex condition that impacts both brain and behavior. Substance use can gradually change how a person thinks, feels, and responds to stress, often making it difficult to stop without support. Recovery is not simply about willpower—it involves understanding the underlying patterns of use and addressing the physical, emotional, and environmental factors that contribute to addiction.

Effective treatment focuses on helping individuals regain stability and rebuild their lives over time. This can include medical support, counseling, and structured recovery programs designed to promote lasting change. Healing is often a gradual process, but with the right support, many people are able to restore clarity, repair relationships, and move forward with a renewed sense of purpose.

Recovery is also an ongoing process that continues beyond initial treatment. Many individuals benefit from continued support systems, lifestyle changes, and healthy routines that reinforce long-term stability. Building a strong foundation in recovery often means learning new coping strategies, developing resilience, and staying connected to resources that encourage accountability and growth. Over time, these steps help reduce the risk of relapse and support a more sustainable, healthier way of living.

UNDERSTANDING ADDICTION AND RECOVERY

Addiction is a complex condition that affects individuals, families, and communities throughout Denver. It is not simply a matter of choice, but a medical and behavioral health issue that can alter brain chemistry, decision-making, and emotional regulation over time. In a city like Denver, where access to substances and high-stress environments can intersect, substance use disorders may develop gradually and impact every area of a person’s life. Understanding addiction as a treatable condition is an important first step toward meaningful change.

Recovery in Denver is supported by a wide range of treatment options designed to meet people where they are in their journey. These may include medically supervised detox, inpatient and outpatient programs, counseling, and long-term recovery planning. Effective treatment focuses on addressing both the physical dependence and the underlying emotional or psychological factors that contribute to substance use. With the right support, individuals can begin to rebuild stability, restore relationships, and regain control of their daily lives.

Sustained recovery is an ongoing process that extends beyond initial treatment. In Denver, many individuals benefit from continued care, peer support groups, and structured recovery communities that encourage accountability and growth. Developing healthy routines, learning new coping strategies, and staying connected to supportive resources all play a critical role in long-term success. Over time, recovery becomes not just about stopping substance use, but about building a healthier, more stable future.
